Four Quartets
Trial & Eros (Montreal, QC)
Poetry by T.S. Eliot
Choreographed and Performed by Deborah Dunn
Voice: Sir Alec Guiness and Stacey Christodoulou
Lighting by James Proudfoot
Costumes by D. Dunn and Josee Gagnon
Dramaturge: Dean Makarenko
”Deborah Dunn’s Four Quartets inspired by the poetry of T.S. Eliot… is rich in meaning, magnificently crafted and exquisitely performed. I deem it a Canadian classic.” – Paula Citron, Globe and Mail
T.S. Eliot’s Four Quartets draw upon three decades of study in philosophy and mysticism, each one meditating on the nature of time (theological, historical and physical) and its relationship to the human condition.
This work has allowed Dunn to develop her fascination for the relationship between movement and language. The choreography embraces Eliot’s play of imagery and abstractions, its lyric and architectural style weaving through the musicality of the language to meet the grace and power of the words. Dunn gives Eliot’s meditations on time and being a new substance, and a humanity that is both modernist and contemporary. Four Quartets presents a contemplative world while not letting go the humour and sensuality characteristic of Dunn’s work. trialanderos.com

The God that Comes
(a work-in-progress)
2b theatre company (Halifax, NS) http://www.2btheatre.com/
By Christian Barry and Hawksley Workman
Performed by Hawksley Workman
Directed by Christian Barry
Sound Design: Jesse Peter Ash
Production Manager: Louisa Adamson
The God that Comes is a concept album for the stage featuring music and performance by Hawksley Workman. This new solo work tells the story of the Greco-Roman god of wine Bacchus (or
Dionysus) and uses Euripides’ The Bacchae as a primary source. In a world ruled by greed and an oppressive king obsessed with rules and order, the lesser classes have taken to the countryside in a hedonistic spiritual revolution fuelled by wine, ritual madness, and ecstasy. Women, slaves, outlaws, and foreigners have all gone to the mountain to worship the god of wine, and to commune with their animal needs to dance, to lose control, to get drunk, and have sex. The king rails against the protesters, leading to a bloody conclusion. This solo performance fuses the chaotic revelry of a rock concert with the intimacy of theatrical storytelling. The God that Comes is a tonic for a society that has lost its sense of balance, and for a people that have lost touch with their animal instincts. It is an invitation to raise a glass together, hear a story, and get lost in the music.
Adults Only • A rock concert that tells a story • 60-75 minutes • NOTE: this show starts promptly at 8pm, no support acts, no late admissions. Doors from 7.45pm.
